Having two little ones 14 months apart, I can certainly understand the hefty costs that are associated with caring for babies. From nursery furniture and car seats to formula and bottles, the average first year of baby-related expenses can cost over $10,000!

If you’re lucky, you’ll get some of those bigger ticket items given as gifts (ie. crib, bassinet, stroller). However, even with a top-notch baby registry, you’re still bound to be shelling out a big chunk of change on other expenses for your infant that you may not have realized.
Most parents tend to be more concerned about the color of the crib sheets or baby’s first coming home outfit. Although those things are wonderful to have, one of the most important items on your ‘baby must-haves’ list will be diapers.
The Cost Burden of Diapers
In those first few newborn months, your baby will use 8-10 diapers per day. It slowly tapers off as your infant’s bladder gets larger, but you can still expect to go through roughly 2,500-3,000 diapers in your baby’s first year alone!
Diapers are a huge expense for a family, especially with multiple children. The cost of diapers for your child could average around $1,000 for up to 3 years.
Considering that your baby will most likely not be using the toilet consistently until his or her third birthday, the cost of diapers can really add up until potty training begins.
How to Save Big On Your Baby’s Largest Expense: Diapers
I just recently potty trained my 2 year old because I couldn’t wait to have one child out of diapers. That still leaves me with one baby in diapers, but drastically reduces my monthly expense on these items.
Diapers are one of the areas that I try to cut costs for my family budget by looking for the best quality diaper with the lowest price tag. Below are some tips that I have gathered from experience to help new parents save on this expense.
1. Find the most durable diaper at the best price-point
Don’t sacrifice quality for a low price because it will cost you more in the long run! Find a high quality product that lets your money go a long way.
Member’s Mark is a private label brand exclusively sold at Sam’s Club. The Member’s Mark Premium Baby Diapers offer a tremendous value for a high-quality diaper.
Member’s Mark diapers contain a premium ULTRASOFT® MAX LINER with 3-D Top Sheet to help keep moisture away from your baby’s skin, allowing it to stay as dry as possible, keeping them comfortable and healthy.
The absorbency of the diaper is superb, not to mention the softness! This new and improved diaper is Member’s Mark’s softest diaper with silky softness that you can feel to the touch.
2. Use baby showers, birthdays, and holidays to your advantage
When you first have a baby, you will probably be overwhelmed with the amount of gifts presented to you. From your baby shower to their 1st birthday to the holidays in-between, you shouldn’t be short on the generosity from your loved ones.
After all, who doesn’t want to spoil a sweet, tiny baby?
You’ll probably be already loaded with clothes and toys. Therefore, use these times to ask for diapers as gifts!
Put them on your baby registry and holiday/birthday wish lists. Add in packs of all sizes especially 1, 2 and 3.
When grandparents, friends, and relatives ask what you or your baby need for Christmas, Hanukkah, or birthdays, don’t be ashamed to ask for diapers!
3. Buy in bulk
The larger the box, the less expensive the diaper.
Long term savings on Members Mark Premium Baby Diapers will help cut your household annual costs a lot! Buying large, bulk quantities of these diapers helps us save money by reducing the cost per diaper.
Although the smaller-sized packages tend to cost less total, each individual diaper is actually costing you more
4. Stock up when there are coupons and sales
Just like any grocery or household item, there will always be sales on diapers. Depending on the club, you may have to check daily, weekly, or even monthly to see what specials they are offering.
If you know you will be buying a majority of the diapers on your own, stock up when you find a good deal. If that means stockpiling before baby comes or even while baby is here, buy as much as you can if you find the best price possible.

5. Keep your baby in a smaller size as long as you can
As I mentioned before, the larger the diaper, the more expensive they are. Therefore, you want to keep your baby in the smallest size that they fit in until moving up.
The difference up to the next size is about 5 cents a diaper. That can be about $9 per box if you’re buying in bulk.
When determining the size for your child, keep the weight ranges in mind. However, with Members Mark Premium Baby Diapers, you shouldn’t have to worry about leaks from a smaller size diaper.
Members Mark Premium Baby Diapers offer top notch leak protection with a snug elastic band around your baby’s thighs and strong, adhesive tabs at the waistband. You can be assured that the diaper will remain fitted perfectly at any size.
6. Opt for Subscriptions and Save with Free Shipping
As a busy mom of two under two, free shipping and automatic subscription services are a must for most of my purchases. I love when products show up on my doorstep right on schedule, just before I run out. It’s like they read my mind before I even had a chance to reorder!
Mom brain is real and with my busy schedule, I can barely remember when to repurchase milk and eggs! Choosing a subscription service lets you automatically receive the items that you know you will use often.
This way, you’ll never have to worry about running out before you had a chance to restock and risk running out to a local store, overpaying for another diaper brand in smaller quantities.
Sam’s Club offers the option of both of these benefits (free shipping and subscriptions) to its members when ordering your monthly must-haves: Members Mark Premium Baby Diapers, as well as other useful baby and grocery items.
. . . . .
Don’t let the cost of diapers break the bank for you and your family. Be wise about your choices and select the highest quality brand for your baby that offers the best cost savings.
