With Christmas items starting to take over the Halloween and Fall sections in every major store, you will definitely start getting into the mood to make Easy Christmas Cookies.

Christmas is the perfect time to make the most memorable moments of your little one’s early years!

Before you get started:

Here are some tips for making cookies this season!

  1. Ingredients at room temperature.
  2. Cream butter and sugars.
  3. Do not overmix cookie dough.
  4. Use a cookie scoop for even cookies.
  5. Chill cookie dough before baking/Age your dough.
  6. Use silicone baking mats for easy release.
  7. Bake in the center of the oven.
  8. Do not overbake the cookies.
  9. Don’t remove cookies from the pan immediately

How can you make sugar cookies even better?

A teaspoon or two of extracts will noticeably boost flavor when blended into your sugar cookie mix. Vanilla is the obvious choice. For a more intriguing flavor, add both vanilla and almond extracts. Rum, maple and anise are other delicious varieties to consider.

Do you decorate Christmas cookies before baking?

If you’re making unfrosted cookies like shortbread or drop cookies, sprinkle the sugar on before baking. If you’re icing the cookies, bake them, then decorate, and then shake the sugar on while the icing is still wet.

Making the shapes before the cookie bakes will be the only way they can come out the correct shape. If you try to do it after your cookies will crumble or break. The icing and decorations will still on the cookie best when the cookie is completely cooled.
