Pumpkin Patch Birthday Bash for a Fall-Themed Birthday Party

This past week we celebrated my son’s 1st birthday party at a local farm in New Jersey. Complete with a pumpkin patch, corn maze, hayride, and barn, it had all things fall that both parents and children love.

I’ve hosted plenty of parties and events at my own house, but this time I wanted to let someone else do the work! The preparation and clean up always gets to me when I have a party at home, as well as feeling like I didn’t even talk to my guests.

Hosting a 1st birthday party at a farm and pumpkin patch was such an awesome idea for so many reasons.

First, there were already activities set up so I didn’t have to plan any ways to keep the kids entertained. Second, it was the perfect time of year to have a fall festival and you know everyone would be at a pumpkin patch with their family that weekend anyway. Lastly, there were people there to help me set up, clean up, and keep us on a time schedule so I could play and socialize with the guests.

It was really a great experience and I hope to be able to have my son’s birthday parties at a farm or pumpkin patch every year from now on!

How to plan your own Pumpkin Patch Birthday Bash

Here are some great tips so that you can host your own fall festival birthday party. You can use these ideas for inspiration whether it is at a farm, pumpkin patch, or even your own house. It just may be hard to bring a corn maze and hay ride in your backyard!

Fall-themed invitations

I ordered these super cute and festive invitations on Etsy. They perfectly depicted the feel of the party!

Coordinated family outfits

As always, our family has to have a perfectly coordinated outfit for every big event. For the pumpkin patch, I decided to use hues of camel, dark mustard, and navy.

The pictures came out great and we got so many compliments on these outfits! For a little secret, ALL of our outfits were found at Old Navy!

High chair banner and cake topper

This adorable ONE banner and cake topper looked great in the barn as we sang happy birthday. The banner comes with strong, double-sided adhesives that perfectly helps stick the banner to the high chair.

The cake was a simple coconut cake from Walmart that I just decorated with some Dollar store pumpkins and leaves. Total cost of the cake: under $10!

Candy corn table centerpieces

These centerpieces were so simple and inexpensive and I absolutely loved the way they looked in the barn and on the picnic tables.

I filled small mason jars with candy corn and raw corn. Stuck a couple sparkley, pumpkin picks in (sold at a Dollar store or Craft store), wrapped some natural raffia around the top and voila! A beautiful fall-themed centerpiece.

I got all of these items at the Dollar Tree so each centerpiece was very cheap to make!

Delicious desserts

I’m not a huge fan of cake at birthday parties, or any party for that matter. I would much rather have finger food for desserts like brownies or cookies. Who has time to use a fork and eat their cake while chasing around atoddler anyway?

Sticking with the fall theme, I decided to have farm fresh apple cider donuts as dessert and they were a big hit. I displayed them on a pretty fall platter with this cute Trick or Treat sign.

Birthday display table

On the display table, I had a birthday infographic, some leaves, signs, cake and photos. I loved this fall-themed birthday sign that displayed all his stats like favorite foods, height and weight, first words, etc.

The ONE letters I got from Michaels and just spray painted them gold shimmer. The orange plaid table cloth with gourds scattered around completed the look.

Monthly picture display

Here I displayed his monthly photo sessions from the first year. I bought this frame already made with twine and clothespins, but you could easily DIY.

Fall themed disposable serveware

Also from the dollar store were the plates, napkins, table cloths, and utensils! How cute is this little wooden tray we found to put them in too?

Fun fall activities

If you’re hosting the party at a farm, they should already have things set up for you like hayrides, corn mazes, petting zoo, pumpkin picking, etc. This farm even had a corn train that the kids LOVED!

Pumpkin Decorating

This was such a fun activity that I highly recommend. Although the babies were a little young to decorate their own pumpkin, the older ones loved it.

We used medium sized pumpkins, foam halloween stickers, glue and glitter. You could also use paint, markers, google eyes, gem stickers, and many other things to decorate.

Scavenger Hunt

I created this cute fall scavenger hunt for the little ones while they were out on the farm. I put pictures on the page for the toddlers to understand more of what they are looking for.

1st Birthday Photo Session

These photos were not taken on the day of the party, but we got some great photos beforehand. I set up both of these little scenes and snapped some pics of my baby boy with my iPhone (thank God for good camera phones nowadays!).

I used some things I had around the house like baskets, blankets, and crates, plus party decor like the banner, ONE letters, and cake topper. Typical fall accents like pumpkins, mums, and gourds complete the set! Check out some more adorable Fall Baby Photos that you can take with your little ones.

Also try doing this balloon popping, fun Fall and Halloween activity with your little ones. The older kids will have such a blast!

I really managed to do this party on a budget, but still make it special for our family and the guests. I was super proud of myself!
